Introducing

Meg Doherty

At age 8, Meg started to receive Classical Guitar lessons, after she was given her first guitar from her fathers friend. By age 10 she was performing in Guitar & School concerts. At age 13, Meg learnt the Drums, which set a solid foundation for her rythym, which is clearly identified and seen in her performances and teaching. Meg continued to study music through VCE Year 11 & 12, receiving many accolades for her songwriting and vocal performances through the Kool Skools recording Project, 1996-2000.

Meg's Journey with Ginja Roe...

Meg Doherty, Melbourne born and based, fashioned Ginja Roe (The Band) and burst into the live Australian music scene in 2004. Having had massive success at Victorian, Northern and Western Festivals, getting airplay on Triple J and PBS, and having sold over 2000 copies of their first original CD ‘Homemade’, Ginja Roe accomplished nation wide attention for their growth, huge potential and chemistry. Adding a little spice to those musical taste buds, Ginja Roe certainly was something original, new and exciting up for offer.

Meg Doherty independently produced Ginja Roes first 8-track album titled 'Homemade' in 2006, recorded in her lounge room. The music on the album consists of broken hearts, love lost and gained, self defeat and strength.

Legendary blues and rock icon Bob Spencer (The Sky hooks, Angels) joined Ginja Roe in early 2006. With over 30 years of industry, performance, and writing experience, Bob’s unique style added a soulful electric sound to the mix which in turn, helped them produce their debut album, 'Polished'.

Ginja Roe added a long, wide, and varied number of experiences and performances to their list along the way. With their influences stemming from the likes of The Waifs, Joni Mitchell, Sheryl Crow and the Counting Crows, their original style covers a mixture of genres, from country to rock, to folk and blues. In their short career, they managed to achieve reputable and memorable gigs. Most notably, they performed at the Tamworth Country Music Festival from 2005 to 2008. This includes performing original music in the Telstra Road to Tamworth Competition and making it into the top 30 competitors in Australia three years running. In Jan ’07 they featured in the Victorian Country Music Showcase at the Tamworth Regent Theatre. In February 2006, Ginja Roe were invited to perform in the Young Talent Showcase at the Bunyip Country Music Festival, but it was their performances at the Mildura Country Music Festival in 2005 and 2006 that affirmed Ginja Roe as a strong force within the Country Circuit. Performing their original music they came away winning an astonishing number of awards – nine in total, in the Top of The State Talent Quest. They brought home awards in the song writing sections, including winning the Senior Australian Country Vocal and the Senior Vocal sections, eventuating in being the Grand Overall Winner of the competition. Ginja Roe were hired to open for multi-Golden Guitar winners Adam Brand and Adam Harvey in 2006 & 2008, and they supported Canadian Grammy award winner Corb Lund at the Hallam Hotel in 2008. Ginja Roe not only proved that their original music was a hit in the Australian country music scene, but they have also been seen performing at blues and folk festivals around Victoria, including the Maldon Folk Festival in October 2008, the Festival of The Sea at Barwon Heads in March 2008, Western Port Bay Music Festival in February 2008, and more recently the Mornington Food and Wine Festival in 2008.

The Echuca Winter Blues Festival in 2007 and 2008 also brought great success. A total of 200 albums were sold within the festivals 3 day musical extravaganza. One of the stand outs during the festival, Ginja Roe continued their success all the way back to Melbourne. No matter where they performed, Ginja Roe always found themselves surrounded by eager audience members waiting to get a signed copy of their latest CD! Ginja Roe entered Triple J’s unearthed competition earlier this year, and have been getting national air play of their album ‘Polished’, over the airwaves at PBS 106.7FM as well as local community radio stations.

Fast Forward a few years...
